Sanitary Pads ProjectBack
Women in the area that TransCape serves have neither the finances nor the accessibility to buy sanitary pads. For students, having pads means girls can go to school with confidence and still play and participate in sports. TransCape distributes 2,400 reusable pads a year to schools, home based care groups, and support groups.
The distribution of these pads is also used to create awareness about women’s rights. In the male dominated Xhosa culture where women are not thought of as equal to men, sanitary pads provide women with dignity and confidence.
The sanitary pads are manufactured by Happy Home, a home for disabled people, to provide income for the home.
