Mankosi households are still suffering from a lack of basic facilities such as running water, toilets and electricity. The Mdumbi Eco Centre is a sustainable eco-homestead that experiments with permaculture, earth building, and low-cost, renewable technologies to provide solutions to meet these basic needs.
The centre serves as a model for sustainable livelihood as well as a venue for environmental education. Community members can learn about permaculture, water management, chicken/egg farming, renewable energy, solar power installations, earth building and composting toilets.
The eco center provides water, power, organic food and income to two local families who maintain the eco homestead.
The Eco Centre also offers a volunteer experience for someone who would like to live sustainably, maintain the centre, and help local eco cooperatives. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on volunteering.
